Our ‘Forever’ Home
tiff November 10th, 2009
We are looking forward to making this OUR home…but first the interior MUST be painted.
We are beyond thrilled to have found the place to call home…But what we are most proud of is the fact that we found a straw bale home with radiant heat running through the floors in Carbondale proper. Eventually we would love to get our own solar panels, gutters that run into rain barrels & switch out appliances for energy star rated appliances…but we will for sure have to take it one step at a time…with our FIRST step getting the place painted…interior NOW & exterior in the SUMMER! Oh and don’t get us started on the back yard, as Rick has BIG BIG plans for that area and it doesn’t include a trampoline! We are looking forward to putting our own creative flare into our home! The boys’ LOVE the place, the space, the outside possibilities & the gate access to the park from our backyard!
We spent our evening having a couple of painters make bids on our place…NOPE we are not doing it ourselves…we thought we could take care of it, but then REALITY hit…that is when we decided that it might be nice to just have someone come in and do all the painting before we even start moving our stuff into the house…thinking it might be easier. Plus the idea of having to do primer and 2 coats of paint because it has never been painted was a bit overwhelming. So now we are looking at accent colors for walls in some of the rooms and a color for our room…oh boy!
We had our first dinner in the house…I brought the beers/root-beers and Rick brought the pizza…but we didn’t get to drink the beers…as i was a dumb-ass and forgot the bottle opener…so root-beers all around! YUM & FUN!
We are THANKFUL for having jobs, making good decisions in the past & a STRONG love for one another to AFFORD this house that we are now referring to as the ‘FOREVER’ home!

It’s so cute and cozy now, just think after it has your personal touches what it’ll be like. Seems like a great forever home. We hope to have one someday too, it sounds so nice and settled.
LOVE the straw bale…David really wants a structure make from it. You are going to LOVE having your own place and I am packing up and sending a trampoline for a house warming gift:)
We were making the kiddos guess who was coming for Thanksgiving tonight at dinner and Ben’s excited guess was “Rohnan and Keegan” David’s reply was “I wish”. I was also telling Jake about David’s beard being BIG and BURLY when we lived in TLA, and he said “Like Ricks”. We miss you guys and think of you often.
Enjoy your forever home….hope we get to see it this summer!
Congrats! It’s really fabulous. Have fun decorating… my favorite part.
I’m so happy for you!
Congratulations! It looks like the sink points out towards the living area… is that right? If so, you’ve found YOUR perfect place!
I’m excited for you all.
Hey guys! This looks wonderful! Congratulations to all of you :o) How great will it be to have a new home before all the holidays?
Congratulations! This place looks wonderful,It’s so cute and cozy. I know I can speak for Peg and I after we got our first home togather When you walk in for the first time you just know this is it and you look at each other and say we have found our home!!!!!!!!!
God Bless and take care of each other,
Love Ed & Peg
What a blessing to have found and purchased your new home! I wish you all the best in life adventures and bringing up your boys. If you ever get back to Talkeetna stop in and say hi. You both were excellent sellers and very pleasurable to work with you. Enjoy
Huge congrats! We took our time moving in to our house and paid for our rental an extra month to be able to do the painting and ceiling scraping first. We had the celebratory pizza when we closed too. The boys loved it because every night after school they played video games while we painted.
What? Your Rick couldn’t slam that beer cap off an outdoor step or wall ledge??????
Congratulations Holt Clan. You all deserved this more than anybody I could think of! And it looks to be a perfect fit.
Now, what atrocious craft item can I can construct for a house warming gift
wow, Tiff, looks like a beautiful place to call home, enjoy.
i know really, huh Michele! You know what is funnier is that we live less than a 1/4 of mile away from our new home…and we were not even willing to go get a bottle opener…we definitely didn’t want those beers that bad…ha
We were talking about you just the other day…..
We saw Dallas Seveay on the Parks and talked to him at a light. He loves “his place” too. Seriously, congrats on the new place. We like the naturual/ environmental touches. HEY!!! where do the cows and sheep stay?? Here in AK we almost ready for
recycling but not there yet. All is good with us. Is the backyard big enough for a small farm with animals and produce. Keep in touch. T and D
Wowzers! The house looks awesome, we are so happy for you guys. Maybe some day we’ll make it out there for a visit. I’m impressed with your beer selection, ours never need a opener….twist off for us ALTHOUGH I do carry an opener in my purse, in my car and in my soccer bag
Say HI to Rick and the boys!
Love,
Don, Jen, Kasey and Shaner
Wow! That is soooo cool…so much like the house we had in Leverett. We COULD NOT find anything even close in eastern MA. We looked forever. Paint colors can be fun….but very tricky. SPEND TIME AND MONEY ON SAMPLES! Ask me if you have some thoughts on color.

Awesome! Congrats you guys. It’s good to know where we’ll be sleeping when we come visit
This is So Exciting! I know you guys have put in a lot of time into looking for the perfect home here in the valley, and it paid off! How wonderful to be approaching the holidays, are you going to make everyone come visit you in your gorgeous new home?
Congrats & may God bless your “forever” home.
Hi Holts!!! Wow, cool house! You will love it. Here on Lopez there are lots of strawbale homes…all kinds. The Land Trust here just completed 17 strawbale hybrid homes for low to mod income persons. A lot of volunteer labor went into them. Doug and I plastered/mudded walls.
We love the feel of them so much, that we are planning on building our own…just bought 20 ac (yup, we’re back to farming…never thought it would happen).
Instead of “painting” have you looked into re-plastering the walls with “American Clay”??? Around here, no one paints their strawbale…inside or out… And before painting, you might get a reading on the moisture content of the bales with a probe…
So congrats! send more pics! Hugs all around…
Love, Tamara and Doug.
oh wow..happy and jealous do not even begin to describe how I feel!
but mostly happy
