.:.things that make you go HMMMM.:.

Just a little glimmer into our day today…We spent our day preparing the house for a nice interior “painting”…not to be confused with a public “spanking”…although after seeing & doing what we did today…a spanking might have been easier!  Let the home owner list BEGIN!

…how many outlets could a house possibly have????…the boys’ helped take all of these off, then sorted them…

img_2374 img_2375

…all the crap on the floor was located on the wall with the zig-zags…it is crazy what people do to their houses…rick has spent many hours removing 4 mirrors that were hot glued to the wall…does that make sense???  he is not done…he still needs to lightly sand the wall & possible  re-plaster…ugh!

…well our washer/dryer situation is not so good…that is what i get for complaining all the damn time about our rental house situation…bad karma…for sure!  …we will remedy the situation, but it will cost us a little money…anyways we didn’t really look at the set up when we were looking through the house, then making an offer…not that it would have been a deal breaker, but would have prepared us a little for what was to come…we went to pull out the stackable w/d…only to find out that it is not a wall venting unit…it vents inside the house into that little plastic rectangular box that you see above…needless to say it is fire hazard & a hazard to all that have respiratory issues…hmmm…plus it creates all kinds of yuckiness behind and around the tucked in unit!

…we found all kinds of treasures…a couple of boxes of laundry sheets, a ping-pong ball, lighter, comb, bottle of bleach, marbles, spot removal, air soft ammo, a fly swatter  and a whole lotta dryer lent…gross.

Ugh, I hate glued on mirrors! What do people think?
and that pile is behind the washer/dryer has all the ingredients for a nice fire.
It even comes with it’s own lighter, how nice.
Besides that… the house is wonderful I bet. So happy for you! :)

This reminds me of the time a few years back that I had someone come in to clean out the dryer venting stuff. They took me into our “cave” and showed me that no one had ever hooked it up to the outside: for YEARS and YEARS the lint had been blown below our stairs. Talk about a freakin’ fire hazard. This was four years into owning our house. I’d hazard to guess that there hadn’t been venting to the outside for at least 12 years (based on receipts and such that I found intermingled with the lint). Took me eight hours to shop-vac it up. I think I blew dryer lint out my nose for another month. I shudder to think of all of us having gone up in smoke.

tiff - where does a dryer vent to …. not something many folks consider
a few years ago the girls told me the dryer was not working well at the house in anchorage ….
so we called sears since the warranty was still active - the nice sears guy said it worked fine but our vent needed cleaning ….
so we called a chimney sweeper from girdwood - this nice guy came up and cleaned it
turns out we have a 20′ horizontal run of dryer hose to the back of the house …. when he was done we had a garbage bag of lint!
he also let me know that the use of dryer sheets helps clog your vent and hose - the aroma chemicals increase the clingability of your lint therefore increasing the cloggability of your dryer vent!
    (cool words eh?)

    Hey Andy,
    Are you really asking me?

After doing research…the dryer vent needs to be less than 15ft…and if there is any turns you must count that as 5ft… We have discovered that you should not use that flexible springy vent pipe…but use a more solid but not heavy(lighter weight is better) solid metal pipe/tubing…whatever it is called. Most dryers vent to the outside…I suppose some vent to where there is a escape to the outside…our dryer in our new home vented in the house…which is bad…bad…bad…unless you have a TRUE ventless DRYER…they make such a thing, but good luck finding them…most are so small, as they are made for RV’s…hmmm.

Some people make shift a way to use the dryer so that it vents into the house, but it causes all kinds of issues in the house…such as…an abundance of lent found behind the dryer(fire hazard), clogging up of fans in your bathroom with lent or dust particles that you do not see in the air coming from the dryer(we had both our bathroom vents clog w/ lent…hmmm) and it is really bad if you have any respiratory issues, as you can’t see what is in the air in your home…then throw in a gas dryer into the picture & you have to worry about CO2…not good…not good! OH yeah and if you have the accordion/flexible pipe it collects lent if it is to big and not extended all the way out…or if it is bent…which SCREAMS fire hazard! (which sounds like you might have had a fire hazard going on in your dryer vent…yikes)

We have chose to have a new plug put into one of our extra rooms…then we will drill a 4″ hole through the wall to put the cool light weight metal pipe through to the outside. Rick will then get the plumbing all set for the washer in this same room…thank goodness we have built a house…so we have a clue…ha :)

I do love your cool words…clingability & cloggability…and i am going to use them…and quit using dryer sheets….although we use the free clear sheets…hmmm.

This is probably too much information…and i am not really sure you were asking me for an answer or not…but you got one anyways…smiles :)

    hugs,
    tiff :)
